Video: Investigation into Mysterious Falling Ice Incident Raises More Questions Than Answers

By Tim Binnall

An FAA investigation into a sizeable chunk of ice that plummeted from the sky and pierced the roof of a Florida home has raised more questions than answers as the agency could find no aircraft responsible for the peculiar event. The headline-making incident occurred early last month in the community of Palm Coast, where first responders at the time were left scratching their heads at the curious call. At the time, it was suspected that the chunk of ice, which measured a staggering six feet long and three feet wide, had fallen from an aircraft, however, a recently concluded FAA investigation has only compounded the mystery.

A statement released by the agency reportedly indicated that they looked into all of the flights operating over the county at the time of the incident, but found that none could account for the frozen oddity. "Inspections of those aircraft," they wrote, "did not find evidence of water leaks that could have caused ice to form on the outside of the aircraft." To say that the confounding conclusion from the agency was met with skepticism would be an understatement with one community member musing "they need to double-check. I'm pretty sure it just didn't materialize out of thin air."

Meanwhile, an imaginative little girl suggested to a local TV station that aliens could be to blame for the mysterious event. Setting aside the extraterrestrial hypothesis or the possibility that the FAA may have missed something in their investigation, another possibility put forward by meteorologists is that a plane passing through an icing layer could have accumulated the frost that was then deposited from the aircraft as it moved through warmer temperatures. What do you think caused the odd inexplicable icy incident last month? Weigh in with your best guess at the C2C Facebook page.
