A woman strolling along a beach in Maine found herself in a strange situation straight out of a classic cartoon as she suddenly became caught in quicksand. The weird incident reportedly occurred earlier this month as Jamie and Patrick Acord were on their way home from an afternoon trip to Popham Beach State Park. While walking on the beach towards the parking lot, the couple were taken aback when Jamie suddenly sunk around two-and-a-half feet into the sand. "I fell in up to my hips," she recalled in a Facebook post, noting that her husband "said one minute I was there and the next I was not."
Stuck in the "wet slurry of sand," Jamie said, she could not regain her footing and ultimately needed to be rescued from the predicament by her husband, who "pulled me out like you’d pick up a toddler off the floor." Fortunately, she only suffered a few scratches from rocks and sticks in the slushy sand, though ominously observed that "had I been a small child I would have disappeared into the hole." The moment was made rather mystifying when, upon her escape, she looked back at the spot and it had disappeared. Jamie later found out from park rangers that the odd event was because of flooding in the area and they promptly put out a warning to the public about the pockets of quicksand that have been appearing along the beach.
