In the kind of crossover one might expect out of Hollywood, a man claims that he stumbled upon Sasquatch during a post-skyjacking search for D.B. Cooper. The wonderfully weird account comes from the Rocky Mountain Sasquatch Organization, which recently corresponded with the witness. After returning from an Army tour of Vietnam in the fall of 1972, the man wrote, he was stationed in Washington state. Following the legendary Cooper caper, his unit was tasked with aiding the FBI in their search for the skyjacker, specifically in "the mountains in southern Washington state along the Columbia River."
Around three weeks into the search of the remote Washington woods, the man recalled, he observed "strange structures" fashioned out of logs and branches. As they continued through the rough terrain, he noticed "a dark section on the vegetation in front of me," though a thick fog that had enveloped the forest made it difficult to discern its nature. Approaching the puzzling patch, the searching soldier was struck by a powerful stench, which led him to suspect that it could be a dead body. What happened next astonished the man as the dark form suddenly moved in front of him and stood up.
"This thing was about 11 to 12 ft tall and had a human face," he marveled, recounting how "I froze in place and tried to call for my companions but I could not utter a sound." The suspected Sasquatch subsequently charged at the man, knocking him over with a powerful stiff-arm motion that sent him tumbling down a nearby cliff. Fortunately, the others in his unit heard his cries for help and rushed to the scene, where they found him needing medical attention for injuries sustained in the fall. Looking back on the experience, the man mused that it took him around 15 minutes "before I was calm enough to start processing" that he had just encountered Bigfoot while looking for D.B. Cooper.
