A kindhearted woman in Pennsylvania rescued a curious creature that was lingering around her yard in distress and the odd animal has left wildlife experts scratching their heads as they aren't quite sure what it is. The weird case reportedly began last week when Christina Eyth noticed a puzzling set of paw prints outside her home in Fairfield Township. Initially suspecting that perhaps her neighbor's dog had gotten loose, she followed the tracks and came upon a peculiar canine by her basement door.
Observing that the animal was "so scared and cold and shivering," she managed to cajole the creature into her home and, in turn, sparked something of a strange mystery. When rescue workers arrived at Eyth's residence, they were flummoxed by what they found and enlisted experts from the organization Wildlife Works, who were equally mystified. Despite their extensive training, they could not figure out what exactly the woman had rescued. "I honestly can't definitively say what it is," the organization's wildlife rehabilitator Morgan Barron mused.
She went on to observe that "behavior-wise, he's very timid, very scared and not aggressive at all, which makes me lean toward dog." However, she also conceded that "it might be a coyote" and, as such, "to err on the side of caution" since the animal could have rabies, the group plans to have it genetically tested in order to determine what kind of creature it is. The unnamed rescue is currently being treated for mange while the group awaits results from the test, which should arrive in two to four weeks, upon which they'll decide the proper course of action.
