A photographer taking pictures at this past weekend's coronation of King Charles III captured a curious UFO that appeared over London during the festivities. The peculiar object was reportedly snapped by Simon Balson on Saturday morning from the thirteen floor of his apartment building as the Royal Air Force Red Arrow jets performed a ceremonial flyover to commemorate the historic occasion. Since the sky was particularly overcast that day and he "couldn't really see the planes," the photographer recalls, he did not look at the images "until later," which is when he noticed what he likened to a "floating acorn" hovering over the aircraft as they soared through the sky.
Noting the inclement weather that morning, Balson indicated that "there were no birds in the air" at the time of the flyover and, as such, he is mystified by what the object might have been. To that end, some prosaic explanations for the oddity have included a drone or perhaps an errant balloon, though the former scenario sounds somewhat implausible given the high level of security surrounding the coronation. And, of course, more imaginative observers have posited that the UFO could have contained aliens or even time travelers taking in the once-in-a-generation occasion. Such suggestions were also put forward last summer when a similarly strange object was spotted when the Red Arrows performed their flyover during Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee festivities.
With that in mind, what do you think Balson photographed as the Red Arrows performed their flyover? Share you best guess with us at the Coast to Coast AM Facebook page.
