The owner of a California pest control company could not believe his eyes when he stumbled upon an enormous stash of over 700 pounds of acorns that an industrious woodpecker had stuffed into the walls of a home. The jaw-dropping find reportedly occurred last month in the community of Glen Ellen where Nick Castro was enlisted by a resident who had grown fed up with the bird having created a series of holes in the side of their house. What likely seemed like a routine call soon turned to into something rather wondrous when he cut into a wall of the home and a seemingly unending stream of acorns began pouring out onto the floor.
"They just kept coming and coming, nonstop," Castro recalled, explaining that the spaces behind the walls of the home had been filled with acorns all the way "up to the attic." All told, the woodpecker had managed to collect more than 700 pounds of the nuts which required a staggering eight garbage bags to remove. Sharing pictures of the "unreal" assignment on his company's Facebook page, Castro marveled that he'd "never came across something like this" and joked that the bird was "a bit of a hoarder." The holes created by the creature were subsequently sealed in the hopes that the woodpecker would move on to a different location, though one imagines it may not be so quick to depart considering what it likely thinks is still behind the walls of the home.
