Video: Rain of Worms in China?

Was there recently a rain of worms in Beijing? Video footage (above) purports to show cars covered with slimy invertebrates in the Chinese capital. According to one report, residents were even advised to carry umbrellas, presumably to deflect the critters.

A number of alternative explanations have arisen. Rather than worms on the cars as seen in the video, we could be looking at droppings from poplar trees, or the worms simply crawled out of the ground with the arrival of spring. We did just have the 'Full Worm Moon,' after all!

The legendary researcher Charles Fort was particularly fascinated by odd things falling from the sky and collected thousands of newspaper reports documenting rains of frogs, fish, and other creatures. What's your take on this 'rain of worms?' Share your thoughts on our Facebook page.
