NASA's Hubble Space Telescope was used to capture the moment the DART spacecraft smashed into asteroid Dimorphos on September 26, 2022. DART, or Double Asteroid Redirection Test, slammed into Dimorphos at 13,000 miles per hour and dispersed over 1,000 tons of debris from the asteroid. The objective of the DART mission is to analyze the feasibility of changing an asteroid's trajectory should its path intersect with Earth. A new time-lapse video shows the stages of the aftermath of the DART probe striking Dimorphos, starting at 1.3 hours before impact through 18.5 days later.
