Video: Termite Mound in Thailand Resembles Popular 'Ghost Boy'

By Tim Binnall

A termite mound discovered in Thailand is causing something of a stir due to its uncanny resemblance to a legendary spirit that has become particularly popular in the country over the last year. The eerie sight was reportedly found in a jungle near the community of Ban Khok Klang earlier this week. The small humanoid shape of the mound led onlookers to liken it to a figure known as Ai Khai, which translates to Egg Boy, a mischievous spirit believed to bring good luck.

Over the past year, Ai Khai has become a bonafide sensation in Thailand with many residents flocking to a statue of the spirit at the Wat Chedi temple in the hopes of improving their fortunes. Although the termite mound was only just discovered this week, a similar phenomenon has already begun to unfold with numerous people visiting the wondrous insect nest and leaving offerings to Egg Boy. However, not everyone is convinced that the depiction of Ai Khai came about naturally as some skeptical individuals suspect that it may have been carved on purpose as a tribute, of sorts, to the ghost child that has taken the country by storm this past year.
