Authorities in Vermont are investigating two separate incidents wherein sticky-fingered miscreants stole sizeable props from the set of the Beetlejuice sequel being filmed in the state. The odd crime wave reportedly began in the early morning of July 14th in the community of East Corinth when a nefarious individual in a pickup truck was observed pilfering a pumpkin-topped lamppost that was to be featured in the follow-up to Tim Burton's wildly popular 1988 horror-comedy classic. Remarkably, as police were looking into the stolen prop, they received word that the movie set was struck a second time just a few days later.
In this instance, the thieves made off with a truly eye-catching piece of memorabilia in the form of a 150-pound sculpture that will undoubtedly look familiar to Beetlejuice fans as the artwork famously 'came to life' during the original film's climatic wedding scene. In revealing the reported crimes with the public, the Vermont State Police shared a photo of the stolen piece on social media and jokingly lamented that "we tried saying the name of this stolen statue three times, but it didn't come back!" As they investigate the two separate heists, authorities are asking the public to report any information they may have about the stolen props and, presumably, stepping up patrols around the movie set.
