A ghost hunter who was badly injured when she plunged through the roof of a train station in Buffalo has broken her silence about the frightening fall in the hopes that sharing her story will prevent others from suffering a similar fate. According to a local media report, Rachel Miller is the would-be paranormal investigator at the center of the strange incident that spawned headlines around the world earlier this month. The misadventure, she says, came about after she and a friend, Eric Hoeflich, decided to make a late night visit to the historic Buffalo Central Terminal to see if local legends about the site being haunted might actually be true.
Recounting the moment when the ghost hunt went horribly awry, Miller says that she stepped out onto a substation roof at the building and "put my foot down to check how nice and level it is and if it could hold my weight and the next thing I remember I just fell." Looking back on the unsettling experience, Hoeflich recalled, "I turned my back for not even two seconds. She was gone and all I hear was her screaming and yelling." For her part, Miller indicated that she has no recollection of the fall itself and only remembers "waking up" after she had plummeted 15 to 20 feet to the ground below.
Incredibly lucky to be alive, Miller sustained a punctured lung, four broken ribs, and a broken shoulder blade from the unfortunate fall. Rather than simply recover from her injuries in relative anonymity, the ghost hunter has opted to come forward so that she can warn others against making the same mistake that she did. "I don’t want anyone else to get hurt because the next person who gets hurt may not come out of it. I shouldn’t have even come out of it, but I did. Especially with the injuries sustained and the way I fell." Adding a proverbial legal insult to her literal injuries, Miller and Hoeflich have also been charged with trespassing since they illegally entered the train station that fateful night.
