An eight-legged star has been born in Virginia thanks to a breathtaking piece of footage featuring an octopus's incredible entry into the world.
The mesmerizing clip, posted to Facebook by the Virginia Aquarium, shows the nearly translucent creature doggedly emerging from its egg and almost instantaneously taking on a dark coloring when it becomes free.
Scientists speculate that the dramatic transformation could be an instinctual camouflaging mechanism or simply something caused by stress.
Let's hope it's not the latter, because the baby octopus has become something of a celebrity with its birth video being viewed over a million times on social media.
