A doorbell camera in a community near New Orleans captured the moment when a green fireball suddenly lit up the night sky and sparked alien speculation from people online. The breathtaking incident reportedly occurred at around 4:30 in the morning this past Friday. Given the time when the fireball appeared, there were few people awake to witness the wondrous event, though fortunately it was filmed by a security system for a residence in the city of Gretna.
Sharing the footage on Twitter, Accuweather explained that fireball was a meteor burning up as it entered the atmosphere and marveled that "the American Meteorological Society reported 29 sightings in 6 states." Of course, not everyone believed the prosaic explanation for the event as some viewers online theorized that the fiery object was extraterrestrial in nature with one particularly imaginative individual declaring that it was "an alien ship warping into our space and time."
