A pair of engineers in Romania have built a fantastic 'flying saucer' that actually works. The awesome-looking craft, dubbed the 'All-Directional Flying Object' (ADFO), is reportedly the brainchild of Razvan Sabie and Iosif Taposu. According to the duo, the recently unveiled working prototype represents the culmination of two decades of research and development.
As its name suggests, the 'flying saucer' boasts incredible maneuverability thanks to a dual propulsion system consisting of four vertically positioned fans and a pair of horizontally placed jet engines. Ironically, although the craft bears a striking resemblance to the iconic UFOs of yesteryear, its inventors say that they based the design on the airfoil of dolphins.
While the first working incarnation of the ADFO, which can be seen taking to the skies above, measures a mere four feet in diameter, Sabie and Taposu plan to build a much larger version of the craft which would, presumably, to occupy a person. Eventually, they envision their 'flying saucer' design being utilized for all manner of applications from private aircraft all the way to the battlefield.
