The first science-quality image from the new James Webb Space Telescope was unveiled today at the White House by President Joe Biden, VP Kamala Harris, and NASA Administrator Bill Nelson. The near-infrared view (pictured above) reveals faint structures in extremely distant galaxies, and offers the most detailed view of the early universe to date. Specifically, it shows galaxy cluster SMACS 0723 as it appeared 4.6 billion years ago. More at NASA.gov.
