In a testament to West Virginia's rich history of high strangeness, four more destinations have been added to the state's recently launched 'Paranormal Trail.' Announced earlier this month to mark the start of spooky season, the clever tourism campaign has reportedly proven to be a smashing success with around 5,000 people registering for a 'digital passport' and, to date, participants from more than three dozen states. Capitalizing on the buzz surrounding the concept and making good on some spots that were missed in the original list of 14 locations, the state's Department of Tourism expanded the 'Paranormal Trail' this past week to 18 destinations.
Among the new sites getting the proverbial paranormal nod is the West Virginia Bigfoot Museum, which chronicles Sasquatch sightings throughout the state. Also added to the list is the Silver Run Tunnel, a location along a rail trail that is "rumored to be haunted by the spectral figure of a woman in white," and the similarly unsettling Hempfield Tunnel, said to be "haunted by the souls of those buried beneath its tracks and those who met tragic ends within its walls." And, finally, the fourth destination added to the 'Paranormal Trail' is Cryptid Mountain Miniature Golf, where players can put around "13 cryptid-themed holes."
