A murder trial in Malaysia took a bizarre turn when a woman accused of killing her husband claimed to channel the man's spirit and, in 'his voice,' asserted that she is innocent. The very weird courtroom drama reportedly unfolded on Wednesday in the city of Seremban at a pre-trial hearing for Lau Seck Yan, who is accused of stabbing Poh Seng Hiap to death in January of 2022. At the start of the proceeding, the woman issued an impromptu address to the court wherein she insisted upon her innocence. Although the judge advised her that the trial had not actually even started yet, Yan had more to say as she then 'produced' a proverbial star witness in the form of her late husband, whose spirit she claimed to be channeling.
"Poh Seng Hiap is speaking. You have to understand that my wife did not kill me," Yan declared before the astounded court, "why don't you listen to me ... I was fated to die." As one might imagine, the judge was unmoved by the 'supernatural' testimony and simply set a date for the murder trial, while also ordering the defendant to undergo a psychiatric evaluation in the interim. Should Yan truly be communicating with the spirit of her late husband and she was not responsible for his demise, she may wish to have him reveal who the guilty party truly is, since simply insisting that she is innocent is probably not going to help her defense all that much.
