Researchers Joshua Cutchin and Timothy Renner joined host George Knapp to delve into the "high strangeness" surrounding the elusive Bigfoot phenomenon, including lights, UFOs, unusual sounds, "mindspeak," cryptic stick signs, and anomalous footprints. "Strange things happening with Bigfoot are not uncommon," Cutchin said, noting people who have long-term encounters with the creature have even reported spiritual and past life experiences. According to Renner, it is intellectually dishonest to only view Bigfoot as a flesh and blood creature. Footprint casts notwithstanding, witness testimony repeatedly demonstrates Bigfoot phenomenon is paraphysical.
The two commented on the glowing eyes aspect associated with Bigfoot sightings. If it is a physical creature and a great ape, it would be the only one to have a reflective layer causing eye shine, Renner explained. Numerous witnesses have insisted there was no light source present yet the creature's eyes glowed nonetheless. "No natural animals have glowing eyes," Renner revealed. Other weird light phenomenon has been associated with the Bigfoot, including orbs, green flashes, and even blue glowing light issuing from gunshot wounds. Spectral lights may be the purest form of Bigfoot, Cutchin speculated.
"If we really want to understand what's going on, we have to accept aspects of testimony that we're uncomfortable with," Cutchin continued. In eyewitness reports, Bigfoot either literally disappears when shot or does not react at all. This corresponds to bulletproof entities throughout folklore, he added. Both researchers also spoke about parallels between UFOs and Bigfoot. The creature is commonly seen in close proximity to UFOs. "The states in which the most UFOs are seen tend to also be the states the most Bigfoot are seen," Cutchin said.
The Music of Lord Huron
In the first hour, Ben Schneider talked about his indie/folk band Lord Huron and their latest project which blurs the line between time and space. The band's name was inspired by Lake Huron, the Great Lake which Schneider grew up visiting in the summers. According to Schneider, he thinks about music visually and when composing often asks questions like, what would a starlit sky sound like? "It's the best compliment I can get when people say, 'It makes me feel I'm in those places,'" he said. The band's songs cover recurring themes such as the dead returning from beyond and dark apocalyptic imagery. Schneider admitted ghosts for him are not necessarily real but rather a beautiful metaphor to define the feelings that remain for those we've lost.
