Then-director of the National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS), Colm Kelleher, discussed the privately-financed research organization that was created by entrepreneur Robert Bigelow. He explained that the organization's purpose is to study fringe science and paranormal topics, most notably UFOs. That said, Kelleher stressed that "we don't study aliens, we study anomalies. They're the same thing in a lot of people's minds, but not in our minds." During his appearance, he also detailed the group's research protocol as well as noteworthy cases they were looking into at the time, including curious reports of black triangle craft.
In the first hour, legendary cryptozoologist Loren Coleman talked about a now-iconic photo of what some believe to be a Bigfoot-like creature lurking in Florida. He detailed how the 'swamp ape' picture was taken by a still-unidentified woman who subsequently sent it to a local police department. While the cops largely laughed at the weird photo, as luck would have it, one officer was aware of Coleman's work and passed it along to him.
