Dan Mathews is an accomplished animal protection activist who has recently taken a leadership position at Save the Chimps, a Fort Pierce sanctuary with 221 chimpanzees retired from medical labs, the U.S. space program, the entertainment industry, and the pet trade. He was formerly vice-president of PETA and known for heading PETA's most controversial and attention-getting campaigns, including campaigns involving celebrities such as Gary Glitter, Pamela Anderson, Pink, and Paul McCartney. As a young adult, Dan worked as a model and actor. He has been arrested countless times all over the world in his efforts to protect the rights of animals and create public awareness. In 2000, he was named by Genre magazine as one of the most influential people of the new century. Dan's book "Committed: A Rabble Rouser's Memoir" was published in 2007.
