Nick Sucik

Nick Sucik

Biography:

Nick Sucik is a student of anthropology who specializes in researching contrasts between indigenous or rural folk-zoology and Western institutionalized zoology. His investigations have taken him to remote rural environments and communities in different parts of the world. In the boglands of western Ireland Nick has interviewed fishermen and farmers on sightings and traditions of "horse-eels," while noting how traditions of such creatures were acknowledged in Irish literature. In southern Sudan he lived and worked amongst Dinka tribesmen while gathering lore regarding a giant swamp dwelling creature known as the Lau. Other ventures include exploring cryptid folklore in Italy and Serbia, as well as lesser known creature reports in the Southwestern United States. Nick's most recent undertaking is attempting to excavate a mysterious grave on a Scottish island, said to be the burial spot of a "mermaid" that was killed in the 1820s.

After serving a stint in the Marine Corps as an Infantryman, he moved to the Navajo Nation in northern Arizona where he worked as a paralegal and community coordinator. While living on the reservation Nick came to first hear accounts of a species of snake that was said to fly. After collecting numerous accounts and interviewing dozens of witnesses Sucik, along with the assistance of colleagues, began collecting reports of flying snakes from elsewhere in the U.S. Presently a student at Northern Arizona University, along with anthropology Nick is working towards a degree in Applied Indigenous Studies; the only formal degree program of its kind in the U.S.
