Open Lines featured callers from Florida sharing accounts of Hurricane Charley, as well as Friday night spooky stories.
A woman from Ft. Meyers, FL said she and her cat survived Hurricane Charley by huddling in the utility room of her mobile home. According to the caller, the strong winds uprooted a large tree which smashed into her house. She believes the tree held her roof down as the hurricane passed over, preventing further destruction to her home and possible loss of life. Another storm survivor, Dan from Orlando, described his neighborhood as "unrecognizable" after the storm had passed. He also said he saw looters out on the streets taking advantage of the subsequent blackout. Fortunately, Dan was able to notify a nearby police officer of the criminal activity.
A caller from Kansas related a story her priest told her about a demonic possession he witnessed in Africa. According to the caller, the priest came upon two Zulu girls who were conversing in Latin. As he watched them, the two girls looked at each other and then proceeded to walk up a wall. An exorcism was later performed on the girls. A caller from Arizona, who recounted a chilling ghost story, told George that the story of the demon possessed Zulu girls was from a book written in the 1920s.
