George "Lee" Lutz died on May 8, 2006 at the age of 59 from conditions related to heart disease. A former land surveyor, he gained notoriety after he and his wife Kathy moved into a three-story home on Long Island in 1975 that was the site of the grisly DeFeo family murders. George and Kathy's accounts of the haunting that took place there, which they said included oozing slime, levitation and moving furniture, became the source for The Amityville Horror book and movies.
