  • About the show

During Open Lines, George offered a special 'laugh line' for callers who wanted to talk about situations that made them break out in laughter. A fisherman from the San Francisco Bay area recalled the time his buddy boldly attempted to cast his fishing rod a great distance and ended up hitting the dock behind their boat.

A caller from San Antonio, Texas remembered laughing uncontrollably after visiting a shop in Edinburgh, Scotland where the obviously Pakistani-looking shopkeeper spoke to him in a thick Scottish brogue.

A caller in Houston remembered driving back from a day of pizza and games with his friends at Chuck E. Cheese's, when one of his friends started laughing so hard that he accidentally regurgitated onto the back of the driver's head. The caller said he laughed so hard that it triggered an asthma attack.

Former Arizona governor Fife Symington, known for ridiculing the Phoenix Lights incident at a spoof press conference in 1997, appeared in the first half-hour to set the record straight. According to Symington, the fake press conference was held to provide some levity and "break the momentum of a lot of hysteria that was building about the issue."

Symington now claims to have been witness to mysterious lights in the Phoenix sky some 10 years ago. He described seeing a "breathtakingly-large" v-shaped object with extremely bright lights on the leading edge. He said the craft was "very dark [and] absolutely quiet" as it moved across the desert sky. Symington believes there is no "terrestrial explanation" for what he saw that night.

In the second half-hour, film producer James Fox discussed his feature-length documentary on the UFO phenomenon, Out of the Blue, which includes an interview with Fife Symington about the Phoenix Lights incident. Fox also talked about astronaut Gordon Cooper's UFO encounter.
