EMF Dangers

About the show

Appearing during the middle two hours, environmental consultant Cindy Sage discussed the dangerous health effects of electro-magnetic fields (EMF) radiating from a variety of sources. Of particular concern are the exponentially popular cell phones and cordless phones. Symptoms from EMF exposure include interrupted sleep, headaches, memory impairment, loss of concentration, dizziness, sinus problems and tinnitus. There is also the increased risk of brain tumors and cancer, she warned.

Many people may have a chronic low level exposure to EMFs even if they aren't using equipment, through others' cell phones, wireless devices, and WIFI-- an "elecotromagnetic soup" that is kind of like second hand smoke, she explained. To reduce risk, use a corded phone or speaker phone, Sage suggested.

She also spoke about problems associated with EMF from power lines, such as increased risk of childhood leukemia. The cost of 'undergrounding' lines is insignificant compared to the health issues, she said, adding that more powerful transmission lines that aren't practical to place underground, should be built away from populations. In addition to the BioInitiative Report, she recommended the EMR Policy Institute as a good source for further information.

The last hour was a replay from 1/23/06 featuring a debate between Michael Shermer and Dean Radin.
