Witchcraft, Shadow People & the Occult

About the show

Paranormal expert Rosemary Ellen Guiley discussed witchcraft and the occult, as well as Shadow People, curses, Halloween, and the Jinn. Witchcraft practitioners often have natural abilities that can be used for positive or negative purposes, including spellcasting, blessing, protection, curses and hexes, she detailed. 'Sympathetic magic' is when something personal (such as hair or nail clippings) is used to effect a spell on a person. Wicca could be considered distinct from witchcraft, in that it's a religion, she pointed out.

In her ongoing research into Shadow People, Guiley has come to the conclusion that the dark apparitions people are seeing may be a type of demonic being known as the Jinn. According to Arabic lore, the Jinn were the original inhabitants of the world and were pushed out by humanity. These other-dimensional beings have the ability to shapeshift or disguise themselves, and might be behind a lot of paranormal phenomena such as some alien abductions, she said.

Objects are sometimes cursed, and people can have a run of bad luck when they bring such an item into their home, Guiley stated. Mirrors have an occult history associated with them, she added, noting that some believe they can serve as portals or entry points for demons or other-dimensional beings. She recommended a daily practice of prayer and meditation to enhance one's openness to a higher plane, and visualizations of a desired outcome to bring about positive change.
