Armageddon & Religion

About the show

Bestselling author and controversial religious theorist Michael Baigent (book link) discussed how fundamentalist leaders of Christianity, Islam and Judaism are secretly working to hasten the end of the world, in order to bring about the prophecies of their holy texts.

Head Injuries & Evil Behavior

First hour guest, Michael H. Stone, M.D. (book link), talked about the Phillip Garrido kidnap/rape case (article), and his research into the relationship between brain injuries and evil behavior. According to reports, Garrido was a normal boy until he injured his head in a motorcycle crash and began using LSD and other drugs. Stone said serious head trauma with unconsciousness can damage key areas of the brain, making it easier for a person like Garrido to give in to his evil inclinations. Drugs play a role too, Stone revealed, noting that "almost all of the serial killers have abused drugs as a way of priming the pump." Drugs lower the serial killer's impulse control so he can do what he feels like doing, Stone added.

News Segment

At the top of the show, Ian spoke briefly with Peggy Sue Gerron, subject of Buddy Holly's love ballad "Peggy Sue," about her relationship with the young singer-songwriter. Next, rock & roll historian R. Gary Patterson provided an update on a new police investigation into the mysterious 1969 death of Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones (article).
