Superheroes & Monster Hunters/ Open Lines

About the show

Author Tea Krulos is a regular contributor to publications such as the Riverwest Currents, M magazine, Fortean Times, and the Shepherd Express. He joined George Noory in the first half of the program to discuss his research into real life superheroes and monster hunters.

Krulos described a subculture in which those involved adopt superhero personas for the purposes of activism, humanitarian activities, or crime-fighting. He shared an alarming experience he had roaming the city of Seattle, Washington, with a group of self-proclaimed superheroes led by Phoenix Jones. Donned in a full-body bulletproof outfit, Jones spotted a fight and attempted to break it up by pepper-spraying the participants, Krulos recalled. Things quickly got out of control—Jones was attacked by a woman wielding a high heel shoe and Jones himself took a punch to the face, he added.

Krulos reported on the time he joined the Paranormal Investigators of Milwaukee on an investigation of Bobby Mackey's Music World in Kentucky. The place has a gruesome and violent history, he said, pointing out that it was once used as a slaughterhouse and had a well built into the basement where blood was drained. In the late 1800s, two men killed a woman, decapitated her, and tossed the head down this well, he noted. According to Krulos, one of the paranormal investigators was thrown against the wall and pinned for a moment before being released.

He recounted his experiences on a hunt in Michigan with the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization. The group attempted to communicate via tree knocking with any sasquatches in the area and received a reply of two distinct knocks, Krulos remembered. He admitted to being petrified with fear the last night of the investigation after hearing a "hideous bloodcurdling scream" next to his tent. Perhaps even stranger, Krulos contends he and another investigator witnessed a white ball of light bouncing up and down in the woods. He also talked about his research into UFOs, lake monsters, and the Beast of Bray Road.

Open Lines followed in the second half of the show. Justin, a paramedic in southeast Texas, told George about some strange happenings at dispatch after one of his coworkers passed away. The spot he occupied is hot when it is cool in the room and cold when it is warm he explained. Other coworkers have reported seeing figures in a window located in new station construction, he said.

A former taxi cab driver named Bill detailed his brush with death after picking up two men late one night. Something did not feel right and after embarking one man put a gut to his head and the other started strangling him with a pipe, Bill revealed. They grabbed his money and dashed, he added. Tim from Riverside, California, related an intriguing urban legend about Cain being Bigfoot, as he was cursed to roam the earth for the wickedness committed against his brother Abel.
