Alternative Cancer Rx/ A Brilliant Journey

About the show

Alternative cancer treatment expert Ty Bollinger joined Lisa Garr (email) in the first half of the program to discuss the most effective ways to prevent and beat cancer that have been kept secret by Big Pharma and the cancer industry. According to Bollinger, many cancers are the result of environmental toxicity and lifestyle choices. "The food that we eat and the water that we drink and the place that we live... have an epigenetic effect on our DNA," he explained. Bollinger believes that exposure to the same toxicities as well as dietary choices caused both his mother and father to develop cancer of the stomach.

"Cancer really is a disease based upon lifestyle choices," he reiterated. These choices, along with the level of toxicity in the environment, compromise the immune system and leave it unable to deal with the development of aberrant cancer cells, Bollinger continued. "The key to curing cancer is to provide our body with the fuel it needs so it runs the way it’s supposed to," he said, noting the body's ability to heal itself. Bollinger could not recommend chemo but suggested if one uses that form of therapy, it should be part of an integrative approach with a nutritional regiment.

During the latter half of the show, physician Larry Brilliant shared his remarkable journey and involvement in significant medical achievements, including the eradication of smallpox in India. Brilliant recounted his time during the 1970s at a Himalayan ashram where he met Hindu spiritual teacher Neem Karoli Baba, who stepped on his hand and made him feel "surrounded by love." He spent the next two years studying under the Maharaj-ji before he was encouraged to go to the World Health Organization to begin his work abolishing smallpox.

Brilliant discussed his time at Google where his team developed a way of detecting influenza epidemics using search engine query data. The method involved analyzing large numbers of search queries to track influenza-like illness across the US. The frequency of certain queries is highly correlated with patients presenting influenza-like symptoms, he explained, noting how his team was able with 99% accuracy to find cases of influenza before the CDC.

Brilliant also revealed how climate change has caused a remarkable increase in viruses jumping from animals to humans, and why it is to blame for the rise of Zika. "It's the most poignant disease I've ever encountered," he said, lamenting how the Zika virus increases the chances of an infected pregnant woman giving birth to a neurologically-damaged baby.
