Alternative Health/ Shape-Shifting Monsters

About the show

Trained not only in human health, but in animal health as well, Dr. Joel Wallach has observed natural practices in the agricultural industry that eliminated diseases in animals (that still plague humans) and doubled animal lifespans. In the first half, he discussed the human body's innate ability to heal itself through natural means, without the use of dangerous and expensive pharmaceuticals. Wallach believes that "The medical system has failed us terribly" and says that diseases such as cystic fibrosis are not genetically based, but are caused by deficiencies in the diet. He said that when he pointed this out as a physician many years ago, he was fired from his job. Randal called in from Indiana to testify that he was cured of diabetes using Wallach’s advice.

Wallach claimed that there are "900 different diseases that are caused by malnutrition" and that by watching your diet, most if not all of these ailments can be controlled or cured. Sam in California asked what kinds of oils were healthy. Wallach said that no oils are OK for consumption, because they turn into trans fats and other unhealthy compounds and increase the risk for cancer. Michael in Virginia asked how the issues that were discussed on the program could be brought "to all Americans." The answer, Wallach said was to realize that the health care system in the United States is essentially "unconsitutional and un-American." He believes that everyone should have the chance and resources to diagnose their own diseases.

In the second half, Nick Redfern explained the lore and legends, as well as sharing first-person accounts of shape shifting entities. In his newest book, Redfern examines the evidence for a wide variety of supernatural entities that have been reported that are not normally considered to have the ability to change their appearance. When talking to witnesses, Redfern said that "you have to be a good judge of character" and that he has seen "the concern in their eyes and their voice" as they describe their harrowing and in many cases unbelievable experiences. He mentioned the topic of the "skin walker" which are supposedly beings from Native American lore who are able to change their appearance at will. Redfern said that some cultures will not even mention the term because it instills such fear, and that many witnesses have fallen seriously ill after an encounter.

The classic shapeshifting monster is perhaps the most well-known: the werewolf. Redfern says that these days the entity is called the "Dogman" and has been seen most frequently in the northern midwestern U.S., especially around areas of pre-Columbian mound complexes. The same creatures have turned up in the UK around ancient stone circles and burial grounds, and witnesses report that their limbs are the parts that seem to shift from human to canine, and not the whole body. With other creatures such as the "Mothman" and "Chupacabra" Redfern believes that the wide variety of witness descriptions may be due to an ability to change appearances, and not to simple errors in perception. He said that the phenomenon of shapeshifting has been with humanity from "the earliest years of civilization."
