Mysterious Encounters / Royal Family & UFOs

About the show

With more than three decades of investigative experience, Greg Lawson brings his analytical expertise to examine the paranormal world. He joined George Knapp on Saturday's program to discuss his book, Messages from Mothman, which explores the realm of premonitions and other mysterious encounters. Lawson emphasized that premonitions, clairvoyance, or mediumship are often interpreted differently depending on the individual receiving the information and the person it is intended for. The meaning behind these premonitions frequently only becomes clear after an event. He cited Mothman sightings prior to the Silver Bridge collapse in West Virginia, noting that no one explicitly predicted the disaster, and the connection between Mothman and the collapse only emerged after the fact.

In discussing Mothman as a vehicle for premonitions, Lawson pointed out that premonitions can be cryptic and are sometimes only understood retrospectively. He drew parallels to the writings of Nostradamus, where predictions are often vague and subject to various interpretations. According to Lawson, skeptics argue that premonitions can be molded into any outcome, while others believe in the authenticity of such experiences. He suggested that the message of Mothman is open to interpretation, shaped both by the receiver's perception and the subsequent unfolding of events.

He also touched on a specific example from his book regarding Chernobyl, where witnesses reported seeing a large black creature with red eyes near the disaster site. Similar to Mothman, this figure was seen before the explosion, but its significance was only realized after the event. This adds to the broader theme in his book about how individuals interpret premonitions and the role they play in catastrophic events.

In the second half of the show, Mark Christopher Lee, a filmmaker, UFO researcher, and the enigmatic frontman of the cult indie pop band The Pocket Gods, talked about his new film The King of UFOs, which explores the British Royal family's interest in UFOs and the paranormal. Lee mentioned a national archive that holds many undiscovered treasures related to the topic, with a particular focus on Lord Mountbatten, who had personal links to UFO experiences. Mountbatten's passion for UFOs was passed on to Prince Philip, his nephew. Lee noted the fascinating archival research involved in the film, delving into various documents and firsthand accounts that reveal the royal family's interest in these phenomena.

Lee delved into the secrecy maintained by the royal family regarding their paranormal experiences, and speculated that much remains hidden in royal archives. He discussed Lord Mountbatten's intense fascination with UFOs, including an incident where a UFO reportedly landed on his estate, though Mountbatten missed witnessing it firsthand. His interest was passed on to Prince Philip, who, with the help of his aide Sir Peter Horsley, kept updated on UFO sightings. Philip was particularly careful about revealing his interest publicly due to past gaffes, though his fascination with UFOs was well-known in certain circles, Lee reported.

He spoke about the involvement of the British royal family in UFO and crop circle phenomena. Lee revealed that Prince Charles and possibly Prince Philip secretly attended conferences on these topics. The Royals reportedly showed interest in crop circles, with instances like the Queen's scientific advisor visiting a crop circle site. According to Lee, researcher John Hanson corresponded with Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth about the Rendlesham Forest incident, a significant UFO event in Britain, confirming their interest. The Royals have been cautious about making public statements due to the potential ridicule, Lee explained, noting the British media still treats UFOs and related topics as fringe or humorous.
