Launching a Rocket

About the show

Ky "Rocketman" Michaelson was Art’s main guest in hours 2-4. He is a retired Hollywood stuntman, stunt coordinator, and inventor. Michaelson is also the Program Director and Launch Director of the Civilian Space Xploration Team (CSXT). The CSXT team was the first civilian-based group that succeeded in sending a rocket into space in 2004 (two years after this interview). Ky discussed his fascination with rockets as a young child, and his continued pursuit of rockets and science.

He described the mass of bureaucracy and red tape that is involved in launching real rockets. Art said he just wanted a big rocket to put in his front yard. Michaelson said he had one for sale for $900, which Art said he would buy. At the time, Michaelson said he was almost ready to launch a rocket that would go 62 miles into space. He also discussed the tragedy of losing his best friend during a filmed stunt.

The first hour consisted of news and Open Lines with topics that included a bright light seen in the Maryland skies, West Nile virus, the Anthrax scare, and a woman's odd encounter with a possible time traveler at the gas station where she worked.
