Mysteries of Ancient Egypt

About the show

Graham Hancock's books have sold more than seven million copies worldwide and have been translated into thirty languages. In this very early appearance on Coast to Coast, Hancock said that there has been a "huge forgotten episode in the history of mankind" and that orthodox Egyptology's history of the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx were based on “no facts whatsoever." He described the interior structure of the pyramids as an elaborate astronomical observatory and calculator. His research indicated that the complex is 10,000 years old - twice the age claimed by traditional archaeology - by looking at the positions of stars and how they change over the millennia, as well as erosion of the monuments.

He accused Egyptologists of not considering astronomical data, and being stuck with looking at what they could dig up, and not up to the heavens. He reported on cover-ups and the apparent fear of orthodox archaeology to confront the information he and others had researched. Hancock also delved into the geologic history of the Earth and how catastrophic changes may have caused ancient civilizations to virtually disappear. Such civilizations may have encoded their knowledge in ways that we are just beginning to decipher.

Later in the program, he related his research and visits to the rumored site of the Ark of the Covenant in Ethiopia, where he said caretakers seemed to die soon after they were assigned to guard the artifact, and that it may have been "an instrument designed to kill people."
