Open Lines: Global Storms & Y2K

About the show

In this evening of Open Lines, Art talked about his book "The Coming Global Superstorm." Many fax messages mentioned winds reaching 150 mph with power outages in three states. In advance of the impending date of Y2K, Art reported on US officials going into a concrete bunker to monitor Europe and Australia just in case of panic. He speculated that bunkers are all over the US, and officials will be going underground just in case Y2K happens.

One caller speculated about the Mars Observer, which was not working around the time the Hubble Telescope needed a fix, and guessed they went up to retrieve the info. In Hour 4, Art waited ten full seconds for a caller to turn off his radio. He teased the caller, saying there was a staff of people picking up calls that purposely sounded like Art Bell. He spoke about Amazon on this show – speculating that bookstores and catalogues would be a thing of the past. Y2K fears ran rampant on the show 15 days before the actual event.
