The Future of Civilization & The 12th Planet

About the show

Professor and physicist Michio Kaku discussed the idea that Earth is a "Type 0" civilization, but in about 100-200 years we will eventually become a "Type 1," which could harness enough energy to divert a hurricane, well as perform surgery without scalpels and walk through walls. Type 2 and 3 civilizations would be able to use the energy of a star. Kaku said that the idea in physics known as String Theory may lead to the elusive "Theory of Everything."

Kaku also talked about a close and rarely acknowledged relationship between science and metaphysics, as well as speculated on the future where computers might work on DNA molecules. Kaku said that 1998 was a huge year for astronomy developments, and marveled over the discovery of a black hole that's 22,000 light-years away. The work of Nikola Tesla was also touched upon, as we as how Kaku does not believe that Y2K will be a disaster.

Appearing in the first hour, Sumerian scholar Zecharia Sitchin discussed the possibility of life on other planets. Sitchin believed there is an undiscovered planet in our solar system he called the "12th Planet" with intelligent life, and that they visited Earth about 450,000 years ago. They needed gold to create a shield to protect their world, and this is referenced in ancient Sumerian texts, he said. He detailed his theory that the human race was used as a slave colony to mine precious metals.
