Pharmacist, nutritionist and cosmetic chemist Benjamin Fuchs has been compounding custom medication, formulating nutritional and skin care products and consulting with doctors and patients for decades. In the first half of the show, he advocated for the strategic use of nutritional supplementation to maintain health and vitality. Degenerative and chronic diseases and age-related ailments are not treatable by the western medical model, he stated. But the good news is, if we make better food choices, incorporate nutritional supplements, as well as use exercise, deep breathing, and spiritual strategies, degenerative disease can be reversed, "because it's in the nature of the body to heal...to renew," he declared.
Fuchs refers to the government's 'Recommended Dietary Allowance' (RDA) of vitamins and minerals as the 'Ridiculous Deficiency Allowance' because it deprives people of maximum health. He believes the RDAs offer just enough nutrients to avoid things like scurvy, but end up setting the bar very low on overall well-being. Regarding the issue of people having low energy, he said it can be related to unstable blood sugar levels, and suggested supplements such as B vitamins, electrolytes, potassium, magnesium, as well as the minerals chromium, vanadium, and selenium.
He addressed the relationship between fasting and healing, noting that caloric deprivation can help "up-regulate" healing systems. Fuchs also talked about how itchiness and redness such as with skin conditions can indicate an allergic response to certain things a person eats. He advised keeping a food diary and going on an "elimination diet" to determine which foods could be contributing to a problem.
