Staff cleaning a big cat enclosure at a Pakistani zoo discovered the body of a mysterious trespasser after being tipped off to the deadly incident when they noticed that one of the creatures was chewing on his shoe. The unsettling incident reportedly occurred this past Wednesday at the Sherbagh Zoo in the city of Bahawalpur. As workers set about tending to the area where tigers and leopards live, the normally common procedure took an unusual turn when they noticed one of the zoo's resident felines had a shoe in its mouth. Understandably concerned, they searched the enclosure and soon found the unfortunate owner of the footwear, who did not survive his encounter with the big cat.
As of now, the identity of the man as well as how and why he wound up in the big cat enclosure are all mysteries to authorities. "Our assessment so far is that this appears to be a lunatic," zoo official Zaheer Anwar bluntly mused, "because a sensible person would not jump into the den." He went on to note that the moated enclosure was designed to prevent people from getting inside, though observed that "there are stairs behind the den, maybe he jumped from there." Pakistani authorities have pledged to investigate the matter and, presumably, put a name to the man who embarked on the misadventure that turned tragic.
