Fed up with waiting to become grandparents, a couple in India are suing their son with the outrageous demand that he and his wife have a child or else pay them back for raising him! Sanjeev and Sadhana Prasad Sinha reportedly filed the bizarre lawsuit against their son Sagar last week in the city of Haridwar. The couple's claim is that they paid for his wedding six years ago with the assurance that he would start a family shortly thereafter and, to their profound chagrin, he has yet to deliver on that promise, leaving them with no other recourse but to take the matter to court.
"We killed our dreams to raise him," the Sinhas lament in their lawsuit filing, which declares that "despite all our efforts" to convince the younger couple to have a child, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears. Sagar and his wife's refusal to start a family, his parents contend, has resulted in them suffering from "mental torture" over their hopes being dashed. The lawsuit argues that has been compounded by what they say is a social stigma surrounding their son not having children. The Sinhas grief was echoed by their attorney, who declared that the couple are "heartbroken that they will die without seeing their grandchild."
As such, the Sinhas' lawsuit demands that Sagar and his wife produce a child within the next year or else he would be forced to pay his parents a whopping $650,000. That sizeable sum, they say, is for both the cost of raising him as well as emotional damages brought about by not becoming grandparents. It remains to be seen how Sagar and his wife will respond to the lawsuit, which will be heard in court next week, though one imagines that the Sinhas are in store for some awkward family reunions in the future no matter how the case is decided.
