In a historic event, the Horizon Telescope has captured the first image of the black hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy. Known as Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole is located some 27,000 light-years away from us. It took a team of astrophysicists several years to process and confirm the data involved in the image. The groundbreaking photo "shows a bright ring surrounding the darkness, and the telltale sign of the shadow of the black hole." explained Feryal Özel, an astrophysicist at the University of Arizona.
