A series of strange chicken slayings in a Thai village have left many residents wondering if a supernatural entity could be behind the bizarre events. According to a local media report, the weird panic is unfolding in the community of Pak Chong, where a dozen of the birds were discovered dead one morning earlier this month. Some of the unfortunate fowl were found with vampiric wounds in their necks and drained of blood, while others had simply lost their heads. The lack of any evidence of the presence of a predatory animal sent a chill through the village as the incident stirred up suspicions that the chickens had fallen victim to something otherworldly.
Specifically, residents have raised the specter of a folkloric entity known as a Krasue, which is said to be a ghostly disembodied head of a woman that is particularly voracious, or a shapeshifting being dubbed the Phi Pob. Beyond the weird manner in which the animals were killed, fueling the belief that the slayings were supernatural is that some people living in the village reported seeing mysterious lights that, legend has it, precede the appearance of these otherworldly creatures. In the hopes of quelling the concerns brewing in the village, officials examined the downed chickens. They ultimately concluded they were killed by a prosaic predator such as a mongoose or civet, though many residents continue to harbor fears that the incident was not a natural occurrence.
