An odd new study has determined which American cities would be particularly appealing places to 'live' if one were a ghost. The peculiar project was produced by the travel website Upgraded Points and looked at an array of factors which they believe would make a community particularly appealing to an apparition looking for a new home. Among the criteria they used to create the ranked list were the number of ghost sightings, haunted houses, psychic mediums, and metaphysical shops per 100,000 people as well as "Ghostly Environment Factors" such as the median age of homes and the number of cemeteries and graves per person.
The study then weighed these various factors and applied them to each of the 100 most populous American cities in order to produce the spooky list. According to the rather exhaustive study, Springfield, Massachusetts somewhat surprisingly lead the list as the American city most conducive to ghosts. Following the community in top five are Scranton, Pennsylvania, Birmingham, Alabama, Syracuse, New York, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, the last-place city in America for 'apparition appeal' is Miami, Florida. It is preceded in the bottom five by Seattle, Charlotte, Phoenix, and San Diego.
