An enormous swarm of locusts filled the sky over several parts of a Mexican state and left many unsettled residents fearing that the eerie event was a harbinger of the End Times. According to a local media report, the unnerving incident occurred this past Tuesday afternoon when people living in the Yucatan capital city of Merida and surrounding communities noticed that the day had suddenly grown inexplicably darker. When they looked overhead to see what had caused the strange change, they were stunned to see that the sun had been obscured by thousands of locusts passing over the area
As one might imagine, videos of the spooky swarm soon filled social media with several people offering the worrisome suggestion that perhaps the event was apocalyptic in nature. That sense of dread was even picked by media outlets in Mexico, which noted that a plague of locusts is specifically cited in the Bible as a sign of the End Times. Fortunately, that would seem not to be the case for now as the frightening flyover only lasted a few days and did not result in any significant damage to crops in the region. That said, those who found themselves enveloped by the bugs as they went about their business earlier this week can be forgiven for thinking that it might have been the end of the world.
